Weathering A Storm: It's Okay.

Hello, chums.

As much as I'd love to jump right back into my usual blogging schedule, I can't, and it's okay. I feel like one thing we aren't told enough growing up is that sometimes things are tough and sometimes you cannot run away from those feelings. Sometimes, you have to weather a storm and just hope things come out okay. It is difficult, but it is okay.

Therefore, here I am, faced with recovery from surgery, a healthy dose of heartbreak and stress, trying to face everything. Naturally, this means things I love doing, like writing my blog, have been neglected. A lot of bloggers have talked about the issues surrounding 'maintaining perfection' when it comes to their blogs, which I've always tried to avoid. I am not a perfect person. My hair does not co-operate before nine am. My winged eyeliner constantly is wonky. I do not try to maintain any illusion of perfection on the outside, so why are we all consistently told to put a 'brave face' on?

Sometimes your eyeliner runs. Sometimes you eat way too much chocolate and watch bad movies. Sometimes you smash your favourite mug. It is absolutely okay. You do not need to always keep it together. It is absolutely okay to be absolutely not okay.

The main message of this blog post? I'm not okay.. and that is okay. Okay?

London's Calling

I spent an amazing couple of days in London recently visiting my friend Heather. Even though crowded and busy places tend to make me spooked and anxious, we had a really lovely relaxed time and I managed to stay mostly anxiety-free!

When I arrived in London I was so excited to go and see A Streetcar Named Desire, which is currently being staged at the Young Vic, and it did not disappoint! I have read the play (and loved it) so I was worried it wouldn't live up to expectations, but Gillian Anderson was an amazing choice of actress for Blanche and I would go and see it again in a heartbeat, if only to stare in awe at the revolving set! However I also really enjoyed going to Spitalfields market and Brick Lane, while I didn't get anything (I'm ever the indecisive person)  it really made me fall a bit more in love with the capital. Also, has anybody tried the beigels? Amazing.

Also I got to try the Rebel Kitchen Chai Mylk.... I'm in love. I absolutely love everything chai, but I've been trying to cut down on my caffeine intake so this coconut milk drink is the perfect substitute. Also dairy free means perfect for me! I might have to visit London a little more often..

Blogging Hiatus

Just a note to say I'm going to be more inactive on Peaches & Teas the next few days! I'm a big believer in looking after yourself with books and lots of hot chocolate when you're depressed and that's what I'll be doing!

Normal blogging will resume soon, I think I might also have scheduled a post for this week so that will go up as planned!

Please remember, even in the darkest of days, that there is at least one thing to be thankful for. Today I was flicking through my holiday photos with my family and saw this beautiful bee and it made me smile - I hope it makes you smile too.

Lots of Love,

Becky xx

Birds Nest Bun & Lazy Autumn Make-Up

Let me start with a confession: I have big ears. I used to hate them, but now I'm coming to terms with my dumbo-esque face and with that, I'm learning to love putting my hair up.  However, even though I'm coming to terms with my ears, I'm struggling with transitioning from the summer light coverage foundation to a heavy coverage foundation- in fact, I've left bases off completely recently! I vowed to give myself a week of product free skin and I've yet to actually return to my beloved NARS tinted moisturiser!

I've been keeping it pretty basic with just mascara and nude shadows on my eyes (thanks to the Barry M Natural Glow palette) then wearing the beautiful autumnal berry shade of Kate Moss for Rimmel London in 107 recently. Pretty certain I'm absolutely head over heels for this lipstick.

This whole 'birds nest'  look is pretty mad though, it is definitely one of the easiest hairstyles to recreate once you've got it right the first time, and I think it definitely adds some volume to my fine hair. Its my go-to.. day two, up-do without a hassle!

What have you been changing in your make-up routine lately?

Around The World!

I was tagged by the wonderful PrettyInPips to do the 'Around The World' tag she created!

There are a few rules to the tag:

  • Visit a site such as this one and highlight the countries you have visited, and include the photo in the blog post!
  • Answer the questions
  • Tag people you'd like to see do the 'Around The World' tag!

1. Where on this map are you born and do you still live there now?

I was born in England, I still live there very happily!

2. Have you ever lived in any other country?

No, but I would love to travel and live abroad.

3. Out of all the places on this map that you have selected, which is your favourite place?

Visiting Berlin was an experience I'll never forget, I'd love to explore Germany more. I also love Canada though!

4. Select one of your best memories from a place you have been (By a photo or just describing it)

My favourite memory from travelling is possibly when I visited MoMA in New York. the art was so inspiring, and to be absorbing it in the 'city that never sleeps' was amazing.

5. Where would you love to go that is not selected on your map?

I'm desperate to visit India, Argentina and parts of Scandinavia. One day I will hopefully visit them!

6. What was the best souvenir you have ever bought back from a holiday?

I'm not sure I've ever had a favourite souvenir, I take a lot of photos, so I'm probably more excited when I get those developed and can put them in photo albums.

7. Do you prefer active or relaxing holidays?

I love to explore and relax in equal amounts!

8. Are you scared of any mode of travel?

I'm actually terrible at travelling, I get really easily travel sick unless I am flying in an aeroplane or the driver in a car! A ferry is probably my worst nightmare!

9. What would be your favourite place to visit again?

I'd love to visit America again, as I have only been for a short amount of time and I feel like there is so much to explore and absorb!

10. And finally, do you regret going to any of the places on your map?

No regrets! Even if I didn't quite fall in love with the country, it is always amazing to absorb other cultures.

I nominate all my readers to complete this tag- It's so much fun to do and definitely has reminded me of how much world there is left to visit!

Where did you visit most recently?

Hello, September.

It is official. September is here and it is now that we begin to welcome autumn with open arms. Autumn has always been my favourite season, not just because I have a real love affair with layers and jumpers, but because it seems to just bring a freshness in the air in Britain. In short, while I will definitely miss the long evenings of summer and the heat waves (however brief they were)  I'm looking forward to all that autumn will bring.

In fact, I've decided to set myself some goals for autumn, ahead of going back to university.

The first is to make sure I include more time to be mindful and meditate. I've begun meditation recently to help my anxiety and I've found it has really helped (more on this in another post!) and I'd really like to keep up with it, especially considering the stress of going back to university! I feel like it is so important to take a few minutes out of every single day just to focus on staying calm and aware of your body.

The next goal for autumn is to stay on top of my blogging schedule- but also dedicate time to writing in my journal. I've absolutely loved setting up Peaches & Teas and its something incredibly important to me to keep thinking of a lot of new, creative content to post! However, I feel like I have neglected writing as much in my personal journal in favour of Peaches & Teas, so this autumn I'd really love to find a healthy balance for both!

Finally, I'd love to go out and be more active! While this is a pretty cliche goal, I've really enjoyed swimming and walking since I've been home for summer and I'd love to continue this. I've got so many fond memories of taking autumn walks at home, but I'd love to explore more around where I live at university and really take advantage of the coast!

What are your goals for autumn?

Postcards From Pretty Places

Hello again!

I'm finally back home from a lovely week away with my family exploring Devon and Cornwall and I thought I'd share some of my favourite photos to reminisce on the last moments of summer!

I've definitely realised I'm very much a fan of the city (I've missed it so much since I've been away from it the last few weeks) but sometimes a change of scenery is just what is needed and I decided to embrace the lack of internet and phone signal!

It has been lovely to travel again, I always seem to get restless at the end of summer and this trip away helped me blow the cobwebs away.

What is your favourite place to visit?

Fashion Obsession: Topshop Retro Swimsuit

When I saw this swimsuit, I knew it was love. My eyes locked on it over the shop, and I'm pretty certain it looked into my soul and whispered I'm yours.

Okay, that is insanely dramatic, but nevertheless I adore this fine swimsuit. For once it isn't a swimsuit that has odd bits cut out which create odd tan lines (go for it if you're into that, I just prefer to be a little more covered up) and it is a gorgeous mint colour which I'm just crazy for. I'm giddy for this swimsuit, and oh man it is even lovely to swim in.

The only problem is the logistics of it, as a halter (but with removable straps to turn it into a strapless swimsuit) it isn't quite as 'in place' as one might hope. This meant while I was swimming on holiday and went to change stroke... the people in the pool got an eyeful. Which may have been great for them, but not so great for me. Either way, if you're a fan of swimsuits rather than bikinis and love that little bit of coverage over your tummy, this is insanely stylish. Just be careful about where the top of your swimsuit flies whilst you are frolicking in the pool!

What is your beach bag essential?
